Troubleshooting • Raspberry Pi5 boot error

I have a new raspberry pi 5 that, initially, I attempted to simply load the latest rpi imager os for a rpi5 to an sd card without connecting to a monitor so no output to debug at this stage. The pi5 did not connect to the network so the boot must have been failing.

I then decided to try the network os installer method, connecting to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. The network boot image produced the Green screen.

So now tried with the fat32 formatted sd card. I am getting the rasp pi shift message screen (sometimes) for a split second but not always. If i do press shift, quickly, I get the bootloader messages screen and the one unusual message is:

HID error 1

I have a standard raspberry pi keyboard and mouse connected by USB to the pi5. These work fine with other rpi4s I already have working.

I have seen some rpi4 users getting this message in this forum but cannot see how to solve this for a rpi5. Any ideas?
