Troubleshooting • alsamixer and amixer command line capture level

Greetings;

I'm using a pi4b with 8gig.

Installed latest Raspbian 64bit OS.

Updated.

I have a recommended USB sound card to do capture.

I have capture and playback working with pulseaudio, and I can adjust settings via alsa with the keyboard/mouse.

But I'll be darned if I can't figure out how to update the capture volume with CLI.

Seems like this wouldn't be to difficult to get working with a little help.

amixer controls has nothing about capture:
numid=1,iface=CARD,name='HDMI Jack'
numid=6,iface=MIXER,name='PCM Playback Volume'
numid=5,iface=PCM,name='ELD'
numid=4,iface=PCM,name='IEC958 Playback Default'
numid=3,iface=PCM,name='IEC958 Playback Mask'
numid=2,iface=PCM,name='Playback Channel Map'

I've tried lots of different permutations of amixer commands I've found online, but I have had zero luck with this.

Seems like it should be as easy as falling off a log. But it's not!

What am I missing and can you help?
