Background, if it matters: long-time user of Buster with all models of RPi, skipped Bullseye. Not inexperienced with this.
I've just tried the latest Bookworm (2023-12-05-raspios-bookworm-armhf.img) for the first time and am using Imager (1.8.4). Am trying to fill out credentials on Imager so on first boot the RPi (3B in this case) will auto join wifi LAN. I've tried this about 5x so I don't think I've made any mistakes (?).
Does not work. Can connect RPi to monitor and keyboard and see that it doesn't connect to wifi on first boot. GUI interface tells me to use the network menu to connect. When I do so it connects, so there's nothing wrong with the hardware or software fundamentally – it just seems configured improperly for auto join on first boot. With a freshly written SD card, the first_run.sh file appears to be fine although I can't sleuth the encrypted password.
Haven't done this in a long time, but am I missing or did I forget something? Monitor/keyboard not an option in end bc the customer requires auto-connect to local Wifi LAN on first boot for headless operation.
Last version of Buster and Imager I used, this process worked, but I can go back to writing my own supplicant file if necessary – not preferred though.
