Hello!
I'm planning on building an Phoniebox for my children using an old RPi3, but a lot of the documentation is in german, and I'm a bit confused about the speakers and amplifier.
This will just be a small stereo box with two passive speakers to let my kids play music and audiobooks. I see there are a lot of options on aliexpress, but I don't know what is a reasonable choice for a device like this. I also assume I need some kind of amplifier. I see there are really expensive HiFi-hats for the Pi, which seems a bit overkill for my use. I need something simple, with signal from the minijack i guess?
I'm also a bit concerned about the power usage. Would the Pi powered over USB be able to drive an amplifier and speakers, or do they need separate power? I guess I could get a bigger 5v power supply that I could use to power both the Pi and the amplifier/speakers separately. I'm familiar with a soldering iron so some wiring wouldn't be a problem.
So yeah, I don't know shit about speakers and amplifiers. Any advice, personal experience and/or hardware suggestions would be very welcome!
